As a Trustee for Olmsted Township, I provided executive leadership to develop strategic planning, organizational development, and process improvement. I established collaboration and teamwork among all township departments; the departments did not meet as a unified organization before I took office. In addition, I successfully pursued specific partnership opportunities, both public and private, to foster economic development prospects for our community. I also managed our human resource duties; I drafted and proposed legislation to implement administrative policies, procedures formally due to a finding identified during a previous State audit that I worked to correct. I also served as our Bureau of Workers Compensation injured worker coordinator to oversee our claims and ensure the handling of incidents was reported promptly. As a result of establishing a routine reporting process for our injured workers, we achieved the Ohio BWC "Destination Excellence" status. We successfully reduced our experience risk rating to obtain a group rating, which reduced premiums by 46%, resulting in approximately $200,000.00 savings.
As a Trustee, I facilitated contract negotiation with our fire, police, service, and building department and established a great working relationship with them, a relationship that is still in place today. During my tenure as Trustee, I proposed legislation to established our Olmsted Township land bank for the benefit of revitalizing blighted properties in our community. I initiated and served on the sixteen-month committee to update our community's master plan and zoning codes—a vital component to protect our greenspace and define rules and requirements for commercial and residential development. In addition, I successfully wrote grants to secure over $595,000 in funding for the following projects: Transportation for Livable Communities project, Community Block Development Recreation project, NOPEC Powering Our Communities Program, Ohio EPA Surface Water Improvement Fund (SWIF), OTARMA More Grant, BWC Wellness Grant, the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District Community Recycling Awareness Grant, and the NOACA Fitch/Cook Sidewalk implementation grant.
I successfully wrote proposals to acquire the Brentwood Pump station to secure land for parks and connectivity to the proposed Metroparks Greenspace Trail expansion and the Fitch Road Service Garage to ensure our service department had a building located in Olmsted Township as when I took office, and they were renting a location in Berea. Another accomplishment during my time in office was implementing a new website for our community and initiating our social media sites and community branding/brand identification. In addition, we created signature events such as the Tree Lighting and Santa on the Fire Truck, Hometown Tours, Health & Wellness Fair, and the Fire Station Halloween event. We also held the Municipal Complex Dedication and Cornerstone Bicentennial.
